The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) secretariat and the Southern Africa Resource Watch (SARW) are hosting a regional conference on THE IMPACT OF THE EITI IN PROMOTING TRANSPARENCY AND ACCOUNTABILITY IN SOUTHERN AND EAST AFRICA in Cape Town.

The meeting will be addressed by the Chair of the EITI Board, Clare Short, and will bring together representatives of EITI national secretariats, civil society and companies from countries across southern Africa.

The key objectives of the meeting are to:
  1. engage with the international EITI process, including agreeing on messages to take back to the international Board on opportunities and challenges in the region;
  2. share lessons learned and best practices from the region; and
  3. encourage deeper and wider processes, which link better to other transparency and accountability efforts.
