In 2013, the Indigenous Peoples Rights Programme (IPRP) collaborated with Norwegian Church AID and terra des hommes on a joint project to support indigenous peoples’ organisations and activists to participate in the Southern African Civil Society Forum convened in Malawi in August 2013.  This intervention was an important first step in ensuring that indigenous peoples were able to participate effectively, for the first time, as a coordinated collective speaking with a unified voice at a regional forum of this scope and importance.

In order to maintain the momentum of this collaboration, and to build on the outcomes of last year’s intervention, OSISA will host a Planning Meeting at OSISA on 25-26 March, 2014.

The intended outcomes of this meeting will provide the basis for a larger proposal by the IPRP to continue to support this important strategic pillar of our work.

The overall objective of this project is to strengthen the development of, and provide strategic support for, advocacy initiatives that would promote Indigenous Peoples’ rights and development as well as improving strategic participation by indigenous peoples in the region, and at International fora.
