Wona Sanana

In Mozambique, approximately 95% of children from 0-5 years old whether in urban or rural areas are not covered by any kind of ECDE programs or services; stunting at this age is hovering at 44%; and only 15% of orphans benefit from support from government institutions and civil society. As a result, Wona Sanana role is creating and improving tools for providing better care and education for young Mozambican children and their caregivers.

As a result, Wona Sanana role is creating and improving tools for providing better care and education for young Mozambican children and their caregivers.

The project being implemented by Wona Sanana intends to address key issues by  providing technical assistance and services to families, communities, NGOs, government and civil society partners, emphasising innovative initiatives that focuses on building local capacity in the communities to sustain Early Childhood Development and Education, increasing participation of children in school and community  through “Learning Through Play” and  “Social and Financial Education” programs, strengthening efforts of communities, care families, local CBO’s to support vulnerable children and providing parental education to parents, caregivers, teachers, pre-school teachers, youth, community leaders, community members and other relevant groups of caregivers.

Currently, the project has been involved in conducting sessions of community and parents mobilization to recognize the value of ECDE and parenting for young children and training sessions for 10 groups of community members and parents to plan, lead and promote an ECDE and parenting programs within the communities. This project will build on these initiatives to improve ECDE services at community level.
